The best engagement sessions happen when you stop worrying about posing and start thinking about what your relationship feels like.
Your location? It honestly doesn't matter as much as you think.
Yes, Detroit has endless incredible spots. Wander through Eastern Market with a coffee in hand. Catch sunset on Belle Isle. Get dressed up for the glowing city lights in Downtown Detroit. Explore Midtown, sneak onto a rooftop, order fries at your favorite late night diner, browse a record shop or end the night with cocktails at the restaurant where you had your first date.
Maybe your story belongs in nature: barefoot on a beach (we have plenty of lakes to choose from here), hiking through the woods (hello, metroparks) or biking the Dequindre Cut.
Anywhere can become cinematic with the right light and the right energy.
The biggest question to ask yourself isn't "Where should we take photos?" It's...
"What do we want to remember?"
Maybe it's the way you dance in the kitchen. The inside jokes. The way they tuck your hair behind your ear. The nervous excitement before the question was popped. Those are the moments worth chasing.
Don't be afraid to do something during your session. Build a campfire. Grab tacos. Roller skate. Browse a bookstore. Listen to vinyl. Paint together. Ride bikes around the city. Get ice cream that melts all over your hands. When you're busy making memories instead of thinking about the camera, the magic happens naturally.
And let's talk about light.
Golden hour is beautiful but don't rule out moody blue hour, dramatic direct flash, rainy sidewalks, glowing neon signs or the few first minutes of daylight.
Some of the most unforgettable images happen when we embrace the mood instead of chasing perfection.
At the end of the day, I don't want your engagement photos to just show what you looked like. I want them to remind you exactly what it felt like to fall in love.
You don't have to figure all of this out on your own—that's where I come in.
Once you book, we'll dream everything up together. We'll talk about places that mean something to you, brainstorm weird and wonderful ideas, build a vibe instead of a shot list, and choose a location that fits your story. Whether that's wandering through Eastern Market at sunrise, chasing the skyline from a rooftop, grabbing pizza at your favorite neighborhood spot, or discovering a hidden beach together, I'll help shape a session that feels effortless, personal, and completely unlike anyone else's.
My goal isn't just to take beautiful photos, it's to create an adventure you'll want to relive long after the gallery is delivered.
FAQ

What should we wear?
Keep it comfortable and true to your style. The best outfits are the ones that make you feel like yourselves...whether that's dressy, casual, vintage, all black, or something completely unexpected. I always recommend coordinating rather than matching, avoiding loud logos and consider bringing a second outfit if you want to switch up the vibe.
We feel awkward in front of the camera. Is that okay?
Absolutely. Almost every couple tells me this before their session. You don't need to know how to pose or perform. I'll guide you with movement, prompts and little adventures that keep you interacting with each other instead of staring at the camera. My goal is for your photos to feel natural, not forced.
What are some popular locations around Detroit for engagement sessions?
Don't just pick a location—pick an experience.
Instead of asking, "Where should we take photos?" ask, "What would we actually love doing together for two hours?" That's where the magic happens.
Belle Isle, Downtown Detroit, DIA or another museum, a flower conservatory, Eastern Market, The Fisher Building, Roosevelt Park, The Guardian Building, The Belt, The Whitney Mansion, a public library, Book Tower, The Siren Hotel, and I also know of several really cool studios to rent, etc.
What if the weather is bad?
Michigan weather loves to keep us guessing...but don't panic. If conditions are unsafe, we'll reschedule. If it's simply overcast, foggy, windy, or lightly raining, we may lean into it instead. Some of the most cinematic, emotional photos happen when we embrace the mood rather than wait for perfect sunshine. Don't want to worry about any of that? Book a cool indoor session instead!
