the how and the why of film (for us)
The idea to grow our passion for photography by documenting 2025 on film was an easy choice. We picked a couple more 35mm film cameras and a whole bunch of film. Our goal is to try out as many different types as we can until we hit a groove that feels and looks "right".
I started with film photography in 2017ish. My first film camera (aside from the disposables growing up) was a plastic 120 Holga and a broken Minolta 35mm. I got the broken camera from a thrift store Downriver (Taylor Town...if you know, you know) and never bothered to get it fixed. Oops. On the 120 Holga, black and white film was my favorite because the image quality of the Holga's lens was so...plastic-y? Once I finished pre-recs and got into my college program (a healthcare program), I dropped the hobby because I was tired and also poor.
It was Donald's idea to pick it back up last year and I was more than happy to oblige. Right now, we're primarily shooting with a Contax T2 and a Canon Elan ii. Here are some highlights from our year so far.
