The 4 most important questions to ask yourself during the planning process.

  • "When do I need my photos completed by?"
  • If you'd like fall photos, there are useful websites to track the autumn colors throughout Michigan. October is typically the height of leaves changing in Michigan and that month books up quickly for senior year photos.
  • Likely, you'll be using these photos for your graduation party invitations and decorations. Make sure that you book in time to get the photos taken, edited and returned to you with enough time to order your invitations!
  • If you play a sport and are planning to continue in college so you'd like to feature that during your session, perhaps consider scheduling your session during the season you play in. For example, a summer session on the softball field!
  • "How many outfits should I plan to wear during my session?"
  • You can have unlimited clothing swaps during your session (as long as time permits) but you don't have to change your outfit at all!
  • Your photographer provides a pop-up changing station for you to switch outfits privately (if you let us know ahead of time).
  • With a 60 minute session, 2 outfits are suggested.
  • With a 90 minute session, 2 or 3 outfits are suggested.
  • You can always bring your cap and gown to wear over one of your outfits for a quick change!
  • Some fun outfit ideas:
  • Your favorite pair of jeans and a sweater NEVER goes out of style!
  • A sweatshirt from the college you'll be going to.
  • Something dressier than you'd wear every day- but make sure you feel comfortable in the clothes to get the most natural photos.
  • Uniform from your sports team, club or other activity.
  • Cap and gown (the one you get from your school or one you ordered online)!
  • "What should I bring to my session?"
  • You don't need a single thing for senior photos- anything you bring is just bonus material!
  • Medals or trophies that you won during school.
  • Your dog (and a friend or family member to watch them for us when they aren't in the photos)!
  • A customized sign or poster (there are SO many ideas for this on Pinterest).
  • A memory box of details you'd like to remember forever (concert tickets, your signature perfume, awards you've won, something that says your high school's name on it, a souvenir from a school trip, your favorite book of all time, a gift from your significant other, a photo from elementary school, something from your church youth group, etc).
  • A bouquet of your favorite flowers.
  • A pretty blanket to sit on.
  • Smoke bombs! You can order these online in either your high school colors, the colors of the college you're going to or just your favorite colors!
  • Please NO confetti (even bio-degradable) because it will take a lot of time to clean up.
  • DIY your car for a backdrop! Use window paint to shout out your name, school and grad year!
  • If you're an artist, pictures that you painted or other art that you made during your school years.
  • Your cap and gown.
  • A Starbucks coffee, pizza or food from your favorite take-out. This suggestion might sound weird but you can get really fun candids using these props!
  • Have a friend, family member or significant other meet us at the end of the session to snap some photos together!
  • Sparklers or glow sticks if your session will end in the late evening.
  • "Where should I have my session?"
  • I have a blog post with ideas for Metro-Detroit.
  • If your session is at least 60 minutes, there is time to photograph in multiple locations. However, most locations have plenty of variety and don't require a true change of location aside from a short walk!
